HOW TO! Sharing Life Lessons Through Literary and Creative Work

Do you have a life-changing shortbread recipe? Do you have a green thumb? Do you have a knack for getting over toxic exes? We want to hear your words of wisdom!

From July 1st to July 10th, 2024, 7pm UK time the UCL Summer School Creative Writing Program is accepting submissions of short stories, creative nonfiction, recipes, poetry, comedy, photographs, artwork, and more, open to all! If you have creative work you would like to share; we would love to consider it for our literary journal. The 5 top submitters will be published, and the winner will get a wonderful mystery prize.

The theme of the issue is “How to…” enabling people to share their life advice, funny, serious, sad, and all!

Requirements for submissions:

  • The title of your piece must begin with the words “How to…”

  • Prose submissions should be between 250-600 words, and poetry submissions should be minimum 50 words

  • Please submit your document in PDF or DOCX format by email (if including pictures or artwork, a JPEG is also accepted)

  • Any submitted artwork should demonstrate a clear connection to your written submission; please do not only submit artwork

  • Include a by-line exactly as you would like it written in the final publication (or write “anonymous” if you prefer)

  • Address the subject of your email: LAST NAME, TITLE OF WORK

  • SUBMIT AT: creativewritingucl@gmail.com

We will select a short list of pieces submitted for publication on our website, with the top place gaining a spot on our home page! People are welcome to submit up to three separate pieces.

Please reach out to creativewritingucl@gmail.com with questions and/or submissions! We look forward to receiving your guidance!
